Group Support 'Angels'
We would very much appreciate hearing from people who are, or have been actively involved with Cancer. This could be a person undergoing treatment, a survivor, carer or family member. The goal and aim of an 'Angel' would be to simply communicate with a fellow sufferer/family member by email or possibly telephone, and 'talk' to this concerned person. This communication will offer personal experience, which we sincerely hope will 'ease the blow' of living with this awful disease, especially in the very early days.
This is particularly so with a Gynaecological Cancer. In the very early days particularly, when you need to 'speak' to somebody, there seems to be nobody available to speak to. It is such a TERRIBLE time, and probably the worst time of your illness, and certainly the worst time of your life.
We appreciate, and are so very grateful to have the McMillan Nurses available to offer their excellent, caring advise. However we feel from our own experience, that it is so much more assuring to talk to ACTUAL SURVIVORS of this terrible illness. The general lack of simple communication with somebody at this awful time, especially when you are feeling so lonely, vulnerable, and isolated, creates a terrible frustration. This 'loneliness' was to be our main reason to start this website.
Of course there are lots more organisations who have counseling services available, and we are grateful to have them all too, but we felt, at that time, that we really needed to speak to somebody, preferably a fellow sufferer/survivor, someone who 'really' knew and could understand what we were going through at that awful time. Therefore, to become an 'Angel' could be so very rewarding.
The Group are presently compiling a database of email addresses of interested volunteers, and would be so very grateful if you would consider offering your help to others, by becoming an 'Angel'. This will simply mean that a person or family member may contact you by email when your help or advise may be required. Unless you offer, no other detail, other than your email address will be provided therefore any other detail on record (i.e. tele number) will remain private. Please email via the ContactUs page.
